I've recently started offering sliding scale directly on Etsy. While I've always offered sliding scale in person and off-Etsy, I am offering it here to try to create greater access to sliding scale.
My sliding scale listings have the following message: For sliding scale items, rather than one set price, you can pay what price feels fair to you. If you're a person who has all your needs met, please consider paying more. If you're a person who is in survival mode, consider paying less. Remember that your payment supports the work of a disabled, queer nonbinary artist. Thank you!
When you purchase this listing, you are not purchasing a physical item. Rather, you are sending a little extra money my way so that I can still earn a fair wage while offering the lowest tier of sliding scale pricing to people who couldn't otherwise afford my items. This is especially important to me because my shop primarily serves folks who are queer, trans, nonbinary, chronically ill and disabled, which are all groups who tend to be lower income and/or underemployed.
You can also just think of it as a tip, or buying me a cup of tea or a tasty snack as a thank you.
For tips of $4 or more, I'll send you a note in the mail saying thank you. (If you placed a physical order, I'll send this separate from your order so that you get a little cheer in your mail!)
Thank you for supporting my work!
